Reliable and green operation
As a ferry operator, you need to adhere to timetables, and you may need to take steps to reduce emissions in ports and at sea. In addition, passenger comfort is often an important consideration. Marine electrification can help you achieve all of these goals: On longer crossings, onboard batteries can be used for peak shaving and load levelling, optimising the efficiency of your diesel/HFO main engines, and you can carry out docking manoeuvres or navigate narrows on electrical power, reducing emissions, noise, and vibrations. On shorter crossings, ferries can often run on 100% electrical power.
Ferries can be fitted with onboard batteries below deck or in A60 deckhouses. Batteries can be charged from onshore charging solutions and/or from the onboard engines or generators. Charging sockets can be fitted to port or starboard, or both, and the power management and automation systems of the ferry are upgraded to enable full or partial electric operation as per your requirements. Charging regimes are defined to suit your operation, for example topping up during short port stays (thereby ensuring regular operation according to the timetable) and carrying out a complete recharge overnight.
